Her Majesty The Queen has appointed David Clark, the Sandringham Estate Headkeeper and the Honorary President of the National Gamekeepers’ Organisation, Lieutenant of the Royal Victorian Order (LVO) in recognition of his service to the estate.

Awards in the Royal Victorian Order are in the gift of Her Majesty, who made the presentation in person.

David Clark said: “It is a great honour to have been made Lieutenant of the Royal Victorian Order, for which I would like to thank Her Majesty The Queen. I will be retiring from my position at Sandringham this spring after 17 years, and receiving this award is the pinnacle of 54 years spent in the gamekeeping profession. I would also like to thank all my friends for their kind help during my career.”

Liam Bell, the Chairman of the National Gamekeepers’ Organisation, said: “On behalf of the NGO and its members, I would like to send our congratulations to David on being made LVO. I am delighted that his loyal service has been recognised in this way.”

David Clark will continue in his role as Honorary President of the National Gamekeepers’ Organisation.

What is the Royal Victorian Order?


The Royal Victorian Order is an order of knighthood awarded by the sovereign of the United Kingdom and several Commonwealth realms. It is granted personally by the monarch and recognises personal service to the monarchy, the Royal Household, royal family members, and the organisation of important royal events. The order was officially created and instituted on 23 April 1896.
